Before, Corporal Punishment is what teachers do to correct and discipline students. Corporal punishment is derived from a Latin word meaning body. It meant physical punishment and in the past it was very common. Teachers before believed that  slapping, spanking, and whipping were beneficial educational tools to correct students.
My mother once told me a story about her experience during their time. Her teacher was discussing on the front while her classmate was busy chatting with his seatmate. The teacher saw her two classmates and was very angry. What he did was he find a stick and told my mother's two classmates to put their hands on the table. Then, the teacher hit the hands of her two classmates. Teachers before believed that if they will punish students with a stick, they will reflect on their actions and will not do it again.
In relation to technology, the gadgets before are not that high-tech as we have now. They only have televisions, walkie talkie and the television is just black and white. There are still no clear pictures and posting pictures are not paced with trend.

Now, in our 21st century or the millennial generation, a lot of things have changed. Gadgets like cellphones and computers are the newest trend. Internet is the source of information. One search and everything comes out. Living a life without technology is very impossible. But how can we corporate disciplining students to technology? Simply put it in this way. Once a teacher punishes a student, it would be very easy for the new millennial generation to video it and upload it to social media sites like Facebook and YouTube. Especially now that, using corporal punishment to students is a big "NO".

According to the Family Code, Paragraph 2 of Article 233 states that persons exercising special parental authority and responsibility over minor children are not allowed to use any form of corporal punishment. In addition, the new law of Republic Act 7610, which further enhances the protection of children against abuses, reiterates that a form of corporal punishment is already tantamount to child abuse which could entail not only administrative sanction or dismissal from service, but also criminal liability where you will have to languish in jail for six to 12 years depending on the gravity of the corporal punishment employed. "(DepEd Memo No. 40 s. 2012 Child Protection Policy) .

So, as we are 21 st century soon to be teachers, what will we do? As I reflect about this topic I realized that "Knowledge id indeed power". Of course, if you are not knowledgeable enough to know the latest news and still use the traditional way of disciplining students, then it would be really hard for you. The consequences of actions are always present. That's why, be ready to know and accept things the way it should be.

As a future educator, I will do my best to discipline my students with according to the laws. I will each with love, patience and understanding to my future students and motivate them to become who they want to be without hurting them physically and emotionally.
